Lithuania Public Holiday Observance Rules

1. When a Public Holiday Falls on a Weekend

- If a public holiday falls on a Saturday or Sunday, it is not moved to a weekday; the holiday remains on that date.

- Employers may offer additional leave or compensation at their discretion, but this is not mandated by law.

2. Working on Public Holidays

- Employees have the right to refuse work during a public holiday, except if employed under irregular working hours.

- If an employee agrees to work on a public holiday, they are entitled to double pay or additional time off, as per the Labour Code of Lithuania.

3. Eve of Public Holidays

- On the eve of public holidays, working hours are typically reduced by one hour.

4. Additional Notes

- Lithuania has 11 public holidays totaling 13 calendar days where employees are not obliged to work.
