Indonesia Public Holiday Observance Rules

1. General Observance

- Public holidays in Indonesia are established by national law and government decrees and are published in the official holiday calendar.

- These holidays are observed on the dates specified in the official calendar.

2. When a Public Holiday Falls on a Sunday

- If a public holiday falls on a Sunday, it is observed on that day.

- There is no automatic substitution to the following Monday unless a specific government decree provides for it.

3. When a Public Holiday Falls on a Saturday

- If a public holiday falls on a Saturday, it is observed on that day.

- There is no automatic mechanism that shifts a Saturday holiday to another day unless an official announcement declares additional leave.

4. Bridge Holidays (Long Weekends)

- The Indonesian government may occasionally announce additional collective leave days—known as cuti bersama—to create long weekends.

- These additional days off are declared on an ad hoc basis and are not automatically applied simply because a holiday falls on a weekend.

- Employers may choose to offer extra leave in line with these announcements, but it is not a nationwide statutory requirement.

5. Additional Notes

- Employers must follow the official holiday calendar as published by the Government of Indonesia.

- Employees working on a public holiday are entitled to premium pay or compensatory time off as prescribed by Indonesian labor law.

- For the most current and accurate information, always consult the latest official holiday calendar and any recent government announcements or legislative updates.
